Functions / Services of the Street Department
Kendallville Compost Site
The compost site is where Kendallville city residents and
contractors working for the city residents and on city projects
within the city limits are allowed to dispose of leaves, garden
plants, shrubs, limbs, brush items and grass
clippings. The site is restricted to the above listed items.
Dumping trash, processed lumber, landscape timers, is strictly
prohibited. The compost site has wood chips and composted
leaves for gardens available to the public at no cost. Anyone
interested in wood chips or compost must be prepared to load and
transport to their residence. Location: The site is
located on West Wayne Street just east of the Wastewater
Treatment Plant.
Hours: Hours are dawn to dusk Monday through Friday,
and all weekend. Kendallville Transfer Site
The transfer site is where Kendallville city residents are
allowed to dispose of unwanted items of all kinds such as glass,
metal, wood, appliances, etc. A dump ticket
needs to be purchased from the Clerk Treasurer's office
prior to bringing the load to dump. Items with Freon require a
special ticket to be purchased from the Clerk's office.
Location: The transfer site is located at the
Street Department building. Hours:
Hours are Wednesday and Saturday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Free Clean up: Free clean up weeks happen in the
spring and fall. Watch our Community Bulletin
Board for dates and times. General Maintenance of
Streets
The Street Department regularly maintains the surface of the
streets. Pot holes are patched and cracks sealed, as well as
repairing the berm edge of the street.
Report a problem: Anyone who notices an area of the
road needing attention may contact the Street
Department to report the problem. Limb, Tree and Dead
Animal Removal
The Street Department will remove fallen limbs and tree debris
located in the street right-of-way, caused by storms. The Street
Department will also remove dead animals located in the
right-of-way. Snow Removal and Snow Emergency
The Street Department is primarily in charge of snow removal
within the Kendallville city limits. To ensure a safe flow of
traffic and to aid the Street Department with its snow removal
efforts, the Mayor may need to declare a snow emergency. During
a snow emergency, special parking restrictions may be enacted.
The snow emergency and any special instructions will be
announced through local television, radio, or news services
during and after the snowfall. Leaf Removal
The Street Department removes leaves that are raked into piles
in the street right-of-way. No leaves in leaf bags will be
picked up. Return to top |
